Music Suggestion

Dave Gahan Soulsavers – Imposter is the new collaboration between the English singer-songwriter, best known as the lead singer of the electronic band Depeche Mode and Rich Machin of the Soulsavers.

Gahan has carefully chosen the 12 songs that make up the tracklist of the album, to accompany listeners on a musical journey that crosses different genres and moments, including, among others, songs by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, PJ Harvey, Cat Power and Mark Lanegan.

All the songs have a profound meaning for Dave, thus making the album a reflection on his own life a story told by others, but still imbued with the distinctive voice of the artist.

I don’t think I could have done this 20 years ago. A lot of songwriters will tell you this, but sometimes when you hear a certain song at a certain time of your life it just strikes a chord, and you feel like you know everything about the song, the person who wrote it, the idea and story behind it. This particular group of songs were from a much larger list, but they were songs and artists that Rich and I felt had changed the shape of our lives.

Dave Gahan on NME

Sew your fortunes on a string
And hold them up to light
Blue smoke will take a very violent flight
And you will be changed and everything
And you will be in a very sad, sad zoo
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see you
How selfish of you
To believe in the meaning of all the bad dreaming
Metal heart, you’re not hiding
Metal heart, you’re not worth a thing

The interpretation of Gahan is always touching, both in the softer moments and in the more rock ones. Also thanks to the recording of the album, which took place live with a band of 10 elements at the Shangri-La Recording Studio in Malibu, California, in November 2019

An album to listen to, for traveling by car at the beginning of the night. Or at home with a good whiskey to enjoy, while Dave Gahan tells you about his life, interpreting his favorite songs with top class and style.
