Bobby Gillespie and Jehnny Beth – Utopian Ashes
Music Suggestion
Primal Scream Bobby Gillespie and solo artist and Savages vocalist Jehnny Beth, present their debut LP, Utopian Ashes.
The duo, with the help of members of Primal Scream and Jehnny’s musical partner Johnny Hostile, release an intimate LP that tells the story of a married couple facing up to love breaking down.
Free fall from the love
Who is gonna come and save us now?
Key turn on the door
Show me if you really want this love
We love on and on
I have never seen this problem solved
Keep word and move on
Hold on to your dream and sing this song
(Chase It Down)
The songs are all nice and catchy which always leave a lot of space for lyrics that speak of love, loss, disconnection, lack of communication and finally redemption and understanding.
Sometimes I think That love is a disease Like addiction That first ecstatic taste That we chase to oblivion (You Don't Know What Love Is)
Utopian Ashes is a beautiful, tasteful LP which is listened to like the soundtrack of a film shot by the two singers.
These are cathartic songs, in a way. They talk about broken hearts but they are like a long hug from an old friend.
